"I am choosing to be vegan because ... after many years of eating without thinking I started to "think" about what I was eating and where it came from. After learning more and more about food as well as learning that we draw the greatest amount of nourishment from whole plant foods I decided to explore further. When I learned about the inhumane practices of the meat, dairy, poultry, and fish industries I made a choice then to become a compassionate eater. I am vegan for the environment, for my health, and for the animals that don't have a voice and should have a life."

I am choosing to join the raw-vegan challenge because I have fallen into the clutches of cheese recently and its many adverse effects on my body. I also would like to be wheat-free for the next 30 days by focusing on raw-vegan dishes. I've successfully been a vegetarian for the last 6 years and I intend to incorporate more raw dishes into my daily diet after this challenge. The heat in the Coachella Valley will definitely help me stick to fresher, more cooling vegetables & fruits. I look forward to joining you all on this journey to a healthier, more compassionate lifestyle :)

"I am choosing to join the vegan challenge because ... I think about the animals and how they are treated. I also think vegan food tastes really yummy! Also because vegan cheese tastes better than dairy cheese. And also because a lot of my family is vegan like my Grandparents, my Papa and Mama, my Uncle Matt, and Uncle Scott. Also because I want to stay healthy and strong."

I am choosing to join the vegan challenge because I want to better my overall health. I exercise voraciously, yet I still feel "out of shape" because my eating habits are bad! I'm hoping to start better habits when it comes to my nutritional choices.

I am choosing to join the vegan challenge because I am groovy. I became vegan several years ago. This wouldn't be a challenge for me unless I did something different to improve what I eat (or don't eat.) Therefore, my challenge will be to stop snacking after 8 pm. each night. Thanks for the inspiration and motivation, Jason.

    1. Thank you for "groovy" ... I quote some of your sayings in my nutrition courses and have for a couple years. I am doing this because I am inspired by a handful of people and you are one of them. Thank you for living a compassionate life and being a beacon of hope that people can live and be raised as compassionate consumers.

I am choosing to join the vegan challenge because it a good opportunity to lose weight. As a vegetarian I would like to push into a vegan life style. As well as to prove that vegans can build muscle and retain strength without animal protein.

I am choosing to join the vegan challenge because it is a great way to improve my health. Although I already improved some bad eating habits in the past years because of my brother Steven having Mr. Tate's class, I would like to try pushing further into the vegan life. Even if I don't last a week I will not regret joining this vegan challenge.

When people ask me why I eat vegan it is pretty simple for me. All humans are vegans by their physiology. If you fed a cow meat, does that make them a carnivore? or an omnivore? Not quite. And in case you were wondering, they have, and do feed cows meat as a way to minimize waste, and get that "protein" in there that they "need soo much". That protein part sounds familiar, right?

8 years ago I started asking questions about health, and diet. I had always been striving for a better way to live from a young age. Now by the end of this challenge I will have 35 years on this earth, and 8 of which I have consumed no animal products. I eat primarily sweet fruits as a staple, with greens, and non-sweet veggies/fruits as a close second. I also eat some nuts/seeds without any sort of consistency.

Most of what I eat is raw plant material. I consider the cooked food I eat as a filler, or entertainment food. The body can squeeze some nutrients from it, but the nutrients have changed as soon as high heat or flame are put to it. Any basic chemistry experience can tell you that heat/fire destroy, and change the properties of things it comes in contact with. Your food is no different.

Now I am in the best shape of my life. If I could go back in time; my 21 year old self I would be no match for me physically. I am stronger/faster than I have ever been, and about 15-20lbs lighter. I get a physical every year, and the doc always says "Keep doing what you are doing, because it works!"

I am on board with the "Vegan Challenge" to support my brother Jason Tate, and to share my experiences, successes, and failures.

    "I am vegan". Vegan=Human. I am human

    1. I'd like to thank you, bro, for leading the life and being a leader through your actions. Our brother Scott started it and was patient in letting us evolve to a more informed and compassionate lifestyle. You were next and you too were patient and never pressured me as I failed to see the importance of a plant-based lifestyle. You've inspired me so much and continue to do so and here this blog and the people joining the "groovement" are also because of you. Thank you little bro :-)

I am choosing to join the vegan challenge because I have been vegetarian for about a year and a half now. I sometimes attempt to become vegan but fail after a few days. Now that I know that more than one person is willing to take this challenge, I'm in.

I am choosing to join the VEGAN CHALLENGE because . . . it is the right thing to do. I have been vegetarian the majority of my life without giving much thought to the harm done to animals raised for their byproducts (i.e. milk and eggs.) Animals being harmed for my pleasure (because I like the taste of cheese) is inexcusable. In all honesty I have wavered with cheese over the past few years, going long periods without eating it but then being tempted when eating out, justifying it by thinking that it is such a small amount that I consume. I can no longer justify supporting a business that causes harm to an animal in any capacity. I also want to be the best possible role model for my daughter, and one way to do this is to make conscientious, informed decisions that have a positive impact on our earth.
Thank you to all who inspired this!!

i am choosing to join the vegan challenge because i want to see the benifits that come out of having a plant based dite rather than having an animal based one. And like Aaron said, I want to prove that vegans can build muscle without the need of animal protein.

I am choosing to be vegan because it is time for me to act consistent with my beliefs and feelings. I have been predominately vegetarian for the past 10+ years, occasionally choosing an animal-based ‘comfort’ food for flavor or nostalgic reasons. As I have become more informed about the consequences of my dietary choices, it’s no longer possible or necessary for me to justify eating animals or their bi-products. I find that I feel better and my mind is much more peaceful. Being Vegan is Groovy, and good for the mind, body, soul, environment, and world.

    1. Extremely proud of you, David! I know it can be hard to let go of something you've known your entire life. This journey we are on is a collective journey called 'life' and our lesson while on this Earth, I believe, is to learn how to live a life "in" the world as part of it rather than to treat Nature as a resource with disregard for the lives of other sentient beings. I commend you for making this final step and also draw some inspiration from you and Eileen as we all coexist together "in the world".

I have decided to participate in this vegan challenge because I want to see how much healthier I will be at the end of the 30 days. I also want to see how much going vegan will help me both academically and athletically. This will also give me the chance to have a huge life changing decision of whether i want to stay vegan my entire life.

I chose to be in the vegan challenge because I want to see the difference it makes, I want to be the healthiest I can be by being proactive and preventing any medical problems that could potentially arrive with a bad diet. I would also like to see the effect my diet would have on my mood.

I am choosing to join the vegan challenge because I want to live a healthier life and see the health benefits of being vegan, I have also convinced my mom and my brother to become vegatarians :)
I chose to become vegan because after learning what making bad health decisions can do to your body I wanted to improve it and also try and convince the rest of my family to become vegetarians

  16. I am joining the vegan challenge because I want to extend the performance of my body. I exercise occasionally, swim and run; but I still feel out of shape. After learning how food is being made or treated, I've come to realize that I wasn't my ability of exercising alone; and I've always doubted myself on that. And for the side note I failed on the first day._. , so I'm gonna need a lot of support from our community, please.
